Adaptive 3D Remeshing for Metal Forming Simulation

چکیده
An alternative remeshing methodology for 3D Abaqus explicit analyses which utilizes mesh mapping is presented. Excessive element distortion in 3D large deformation analyses necessitates remeshing, however in Abaqus explicit, the standard 3D remeshing techniques limits the analyst’s choice of element type. The presented technique allows remeshing of 3D perfectly plastic fully integrated higher order elements. The remeshing occurs in regions of high equivalent plastic strain or high equivalent plastic strain rate. The remeshing procedure maps the old boundary conditions, stress, and inelastic strain from the old distorted mesh. A benchmark comparing the results of an analysis using the remeshing technique to a known solution showed less than 0.2% error as a result of the remeshing procedure.

Adaptive remeshing based on a posteriori error estimation for forging simulation
This paper presents a fully automatic 3D adaptive remeshing procedure and its application to non-steady metal forming simulation. Remeshing, here, is considered as the improvement of an existing mesh rather than a complete rebuilding process. The mesh optimization technique is described. It is based on the combination of local improvement of the neighbourhood of nodes and edges. The surface and...

The built up layer thickness in secondary deformation zone is one of the important parameters in metal cutting process. The built up layer (BUL) is formed in second deformation zone near the tool-chip interface in the back of the chip. This parameter influences the tool life and machined surface quality. This BUL should not be confused with the built up edge (BUE). The deformation of the BUL in...
